Whether you’re driving or flying, traveling before and after the holiday can turn into quite a headache. With people across the US eager to get to their loved ones, lines at airports and traffic is inevitable. But don’t let the journey get you down! I'm sharing my 5 tried and true Holiday Travel Tips to help you survive this holiday season travel.
1. Plan ahead and arrive early
The day before a holiday is one of the busiest travel day of the year, so plan ahead. If you’re driving, think about the rush hour times for each city you have to drive through. Even consider a scenic route—sometimes the distance might be longer but you won’t end up sitting bumper to bumper. If you’re flying, arrive extra early. You’d rather be sitting at your gate reading a book or enjoying some fantastic people-watching than having a panic attack at the never-ending security line.

What a trip to Riviera Maya Mexico I had. October 20-24th, 2019. I stayed at the El Dorado Royale for 4 nights.
I had a great time with the all of the travel agents and the Sales Managers of the resorts we visited. It is a great workout, trying all the foods, walking around and seeing all the resorts. It's tough job and darn it, someone has to do it!
Now let’s get to the resort experiences I had. I know you want to learn more about that. I did decide on this trip to not only tour the different resorts but that I would get there a day early so I could really get to know the property and what it had to offer so I can provide even better information to my clients.
I was there to visit the Karisma Hotel & Resorts which is a family of gourmet inclusive adults only and family friendly properties situated in Mexico’s Riviera Maya south of Cancun. You will really want to begin checking out these resorts since there is a new Nickelodeon in Riviera May and there will soon be additional resorts in Puerto Vallarta and Jamaica, not to mention the new Margaritaville in Riviera Maya.
I spent a few days inspecting all seven of the Karisma properties in the Mayan Riviera. With the exception of Hidden Beach (they have naked people running around over there . . . seriously!) I even graduated from Karisma Groumet Inclusive Experience University!
Karisma Resorts is the parent company with Azul Hotels being the family friendly properties (along with the new Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts), the El Dodados are the adults only resorts. Generations Riviera Maya is a fairly new brand for those families where every generation actually enjoys each other’s company.
With so many resorts in the destination, what makes Karisma Hotels & Resorts unique? Pretty much everything. They are not like any other hotel chain nor do they aspire to be. From their partnerships with Jackson Family Wines, Canadian Beef, My Gym, and Nickelodeon to their pioneering transformation of all-inclusive into Gourmet Inclusive to artificial reefs and over water bungalows, they are setting the standard for the entire destination.
There remains barely enough time in this post for a listing of the Karisma properties located in the Mayan Riviera. For a complete list of all the Karisma Hotels & Resorts brands and properties click here.

El Dorado Maroma
El Dorado Royale
El Dorado Casistas Royale
El Dorado Seaside Suites
Generations Riviera Maya
Hidden Beach (You’re on your own here. Did I mention there's naked people here)
Something to know is even though they were the same Brand Resort, that doesn't not mean you will have the same experience. Adults only resort is going to have a completely different feel to it then a family friendly resort will. The food quality can also be different between an adults only to a family friendly resort. The room accommodations can be different if it's a romantic couples adults only resort compared to an adults only (meaning it's not geared towards couples only).
Let’s Sum It Up! If you are not aware of the numerous all-inclusive resorts that are in Mexico, Caribbean, Dominican Republic, there are zillions. All unique in their own way. How can you choose which resort is for you?
This is why I go on these FAM (familiarization) trips. It's important for me to know not only the resorts but also the destination itself. What is the weather like, are US dollars excepted, what is the airport like, what excursions are good, etc. Knowing and experiencing these destinations help me to be able to help you.
You are welcome to do research on the best all-inclusive resort for you, or reach out to a travel advisor, like myself who can speed up the process of finding the resort that fits your interests, wants, and desires. First hand experience is the most important and what I can bring back and share with my future clients.
Follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you will get to see pictures of my Riviera Maya FAM.
