How to Expect the Unexpected When Traveling

 ARE YOU GOING ON VACATION?
Have you been watching the news or just skimming through social media?  You’re probably aware that travel safety is always a trending topic. Eye-catching headlines, weather worries, and increased attention on certain destinations from media outlets can cause some travelers to re-think or postpone their travel plans.

As your travel agent, I work hard to stay on top of situations that might affect the safety of my clients.

For any destination, it’s important to stay healthy, to protect yourself, and be prepared to deal with unexpected events. One of the most important parts of my role is doing what I can to keep you safe, in all situations, no matter where your adventures take you.

When you’re traveling, follow these seven safe-travel recommendations:

1.  Purchase Travel Insurance
Above all else, the best way to stay protected is to purchase travel insurance.  Travel insurance policies can provide protection and priceless assistance during medical emergencies, hurricanes, disasters, and other major trip interruption events (it's not just about cancel for any reason). Be sure to read and understand the coverage policies, especially when traveling during high-risk times.

2.  Maintain Moderate Habits
Do your best to stay hydrated (especially when flying), be cautious of which foods are less risky to consume, get plenty of rest, and use sunscreen.  Moderating your own food and alcohol consumption, and that of your loved ones can help you avoid illness and maintain awareness of your surroundings.

3.  Protect Your Valuables
Keep a conscious eye on your valuables, including your purse, jewelry, identification documents, medications, and currency.  It’s also a great idea to keep a copy of your travel documents and emergency contact information in a secure place.
